Sixth Form

The staff and students are very proud of our sixth form and the important role it plays in the life of the academy.

We have a strong record of success and achievement, along with a reputation for personalised support and development for each student. Our sixth form students benefit from a dedicated area of the academy for both teaching and personal study, fostering a positive and focused learning environment that supports the development of effective independent learners.

Our curriculum is ambitious, inspiring, and challenging, in line with our commitment to providing an exceptional knowledge-rich education. It offers students the opportunity to discover their passions and excel in areas they love. High-quality learning is at the heart of what we do, with lessons taught by subject experts who are passionate about their fields.

At Future Academies Watford, we believe in nurturing our students into confident, articulate, and successful adults. Our sixth form is no exception. We uphold the values of knowledge, aspiration, and respect, ensuring that our students have the highest expectations for themselves and their futures. We celebrate their individual successes daily, instilling a sense of pride and ownership in their educational journey.

In essence, our sixth form is a place where young people love to learn and grow. It is a community where they are filled with excitement and wonder, much like the feeling of owning a sweet shop. This sense of belonging and enthusiasm is woven into the fabric of our academy, supported by high standards of curriculum and behaviour. We strive to create an environment that students and the community love being a part of.

Students in the Sixth Form have access to a dedicated study area, well-equipped and supervised by the Assistant Head of Sixth Form and the Head of Year 12. These staff members are pivotal in delivering our careers programme and providing 1:1 guidance sessions for the university application process. They also ensure our students engage in enrichment activities, such as attending specialist lectures, cultural events, and trips to museums, galleries, and theatres. Additionally, they facilitate participation in relevant bespoke work experience, which we assist in finding.

We also invite specialists to talk to students about global issues, including topical news stories, politics, industries, health and nutrition, and relationships. Students have the opportunity to earn Duke of Edinburgh and First Aid qualifications, and participate in public speaking and debating events.

Career Education

Along with our knowledge-rich curriculum, Careers in Education is a key pillar of Future Academies. We believe that a robust Careers programme is essential for raising the aspirations of our pupils and equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve excellence, regardless of their background or individual circumstances.

Our Enrichment scheme encompasses the following four areas:

  • 1) Connecting pupils to the world of work, future education, training, and employment
  • 2) Enriching the curriculum
  • 3) Providing exposure to culture, the arts, and sport
  • 4) Building character, integrity, resilience, and judgement
